(So I failed with my goal of writing every day until my boyfriend's birthday! Okay, but still I'm continuing this series. Because I couldn't be more thankful for him! Happy birthday, Gary!)
When I was in high school, my friend and I drafted something: the criteria for selecting a future boyfriend/ life-partner. We went crazy rating our guy classmates, we were close to tears from too much laughing. Imagine one classmate got a score of 0.5/5 for the looks criterion. In my list, nobody got a passing score. Even my biggest high school infatuation failed to meet the passing score of 82 (I came from a science high school where you fail a minor subject once you get something lower than 82).
Probably we were too harsh, or probably we were too demanding and specific with what we wanted our future boyfriend would be like. But when I met you, I realized why no one ever passed. The specific set of characteristics I look for in a guy, I found in you.
Too bad I lost that list. I lost my score sheet. But okay, as best as I can, here are some things I recall I put weights on, and their corresponding explanations:
Looks - He doesn't have to look handsome and dashing and all. I am not that demanding. Di naman ako kagandahan e! I consider more important physical characteristics like height, weight, built, absence of abnormalities/deformities, and hygiene. I also listed something there, good genes. A handsome guy could just be a genetic miracle, maybe both his parents are ugly, and the ugly gene would sadly propagate in our gene pool. Haha! I'm superficial, yes! I was a 15-year old, you can't blame me!
Intelligence- Under intelligence are educational background (at least same level as that of mine), IQ, sense of humor, wit, and ability to talk to me for more than an hour (because it's hard to tolerate my company)
Others - Off the top of my head, I can recall putting weights on religion, family background, attitude, talents/hobbies/sports, likes or dislikes, belief on love, life, etc.
So there. I know sometimes I mention that you're really not my type, but hey, I am not your type either! Haha! Goes to show that God really does surprise us with what He is able to give. He knows what we secretly like and what we would both be happy with. Maybe He read my list. I don't know. All I know is that this is destiny, God destined us for each other. Something as splendid as this love can only be a miracle.
